My Teaching Mission:
to build confidence in individuals through golf. Incorporating the principles of sport and exercise psychology into physical practice will enable the individual to build a strong mental foundation. This foundation will equipped the player with the autonomy to trust their physical swing. This newfound golf efficacy and autonomy will hopefully lead the individual to become a more confident person in life.

My Playing Mission:
To push myself to my full potential as I do with my students. To honor my game with physical and mental training and to keep setting my standards higher each year.

Personal Golf Goals for 2009:
*Win at least one T&CP Professional tournament
*Make it to sectional qualifying of the US Women's Open

UPDATE! Congratulations to Lyberty Anderson for winning the Richmond Women's Golf Association Amateur Championship! This is the second major Amateur victory of the summer season for Miss Anderson! Thank you for the great birthday gift Lyberty and keep it up.

As her mental strength coach, I am very excited to see Lyberty's mental toughness catch up to her physical talents. If you need help with your mental toughness or would like to discuss mental strategy, contact me using the contact form!

In the meantime, make a great game!

June 2009

Welcome to summertime! So much has happened over the past few months. I have seen my girls golf groups grow and all of the children who come to The First Tee blossom on the golf course. Two of my participants have made great achievements over the last two months. One of my Girls Golf Leaguers, Lyberty Anderson, recently won the highly competitive Scott Robertson Memorial Tournament. A great achievement for any junior, but Lyberty had recently turned 13, so this was a fantastic win! She will be trying to qualify for the Women's US Open, US Girls Junior, and will play in several AJGA events. Watch out world! :)

Another high achiever is one of my Eagle level participants, Gavin Parker. Gavin was accepted into the selective The First Tee PLAYer Advanced golf academy. He was also selected to try and qualify for a spot to play with the Champions Tour Players at The WalMart Pebble Beach Open! This is a very exciting opportunity and hopefully we will be watching Gavin on Golf Channel in August!

As for me, the last few months have been full of teaching, running clinics and tournaments, and playing a little tournament golf of my own. Unfortunately I was unable to get through my local US Open qualifier, but I will be able to compete in LPGA T&CP events. I am really looking forward to more competitive opportunities!

I have been overjoyed as a teacher with the success of my students! Watching both my juniors and adults grow and succeed is the greatest reward. Recently I taught at the LPGA Kingsmill junior clinic and introducing newcomers to the game is always a great experience. I have also continued writing for The Virginia Golf Report and the May edition contains an article on parent psychology... read up! (http://www.virginiagolfreport.com/Home.html).

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the summer and if you need any help I'm only a click away!

Make a great game,

Meredith
March 2009

It is a very exciting time of year! We had our first snowfall to ring in spring and The First Tee Programs and LPGA USGA Girls Golf Clubs are about to start back up. I'm really excited about two more new programs I am starting. The first is an additional Girls Golf Club in Richmond and the second is the start of a Girls Golf League. I really want to see the amount of competitive female golfers grow in Virginia and I think more competitive league play will keep the younger girls motivated. From the talent I have seen, Virginia can easily have the best group of young women for college coaches to choose from in the near future.

Personally, the U.S. Women's Open qualifying schedule has been released and I am eyeing the local qualifier in York, PA on May 18th to take my shot at getting to the U.S. Women's Open. Cross your fingers everyone!
Also, I am now a contributing editor to the Virginia Golf Report.( http://virginiagolfreport.com/Home.html ) and my first story has been published in the current issue! If you are interested in golf news from central Virginia, the VGR is a great source of golf information so check it out!

In other news, good friend and local touring professional Alex Brown has been accepted into the Monday qualifier for the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open and Wachovia Championship. Alex is a Richmond native, played for Virginia Commonwealth University, and currently is a mini-tour player.  Please keep him in your thoughts as he takes his shot at his first PGA Tour events. The qualifiers are on Monday March 9th and Monday April 20th.

To everyone, practice hard and make a great game!

November 2008

Hello everyone! What a great month this has been. I traveled to Daytona Beach for my first LPGA Teaching and Club professionals exam and I'm happy to announce that I passed and moved up to Apprentice level! I will return to take my Class B exams in April.

Also, while down in Florida I was able to play in an event with women who have qualified for the third stage of LPGA Qualifying School. Unfortunately I was unable to make the cut, however it was amazing to play with the level of talent that will be this year's stars of the LPGA Tour.

In addition to golf I was able to take a trip down to Kennedy Space Center to watch Space Shuttle Endeavor launch. I will keep trying to load the video so you can take a look at the amazing takeoff.

I was also able to fit in a round of golf at Champions Gate in Orlando with Dr. Bob Winters. Dr. Bob is the resident sport psychologist (and a fellow UVA alum :) ) at David Leadbetter's world renowned golf academy. It was wonderful playing with him and he definitely cleared some of the clutter out. I will take his teaching to heart and apply it to mine and my clients games.

It was a wonderful trip and I look forward to my future tournaments in the spring! I can't wait to tell you all about them!

Take care and practice hard,
Meredith

September 2008

Just a small world story to share with you... A few months ago I was invited to sit in with the VCU Men's Golf Team and work with Dr. Bob Winters, who is a world renowned sport psychologist. I loved what he had to say and I learned that he works at David Leadbetter's Golf Academy. A few months forward, I was signed to the Callaway Golf Staff and was given the opportunity to work at a Callaway and Cadillac golf clinic that would be hosted by none other than David Leadbetter!
David was an amazing spokesman and teacher. His ability to relate to anybody was phenomenal and now I understand why he is so renowned for his teachings. It was very cool to work with him and I just wanted to share this anecdote with you all.
It shows how small the golfing world is, and isn't it wonderful!?!

Enjoy the fall scenery on the course,
Meredith
